About the art: After the pandemic reached California, I began to lose touch with my normal modes of creating. For several months I was occupied by doom scrolling, vacant hobbies, lost time. Eventually I started making simple sketches of the flowers I brought in to my home each week. I was never interested in flowers as a subject before, but in the context of the COVID, racial violence, fires, etc., their stillness felt more needed than ever. Over time these drawings evolved into more complex reflections of my experience in this moment of uncertainty and futurelessness.
